The Job
Chatting for BonerGhosts is a part-time position, sixteen hours a week: four four-hour shifts. The schedule for each week can vary or stay pretty stagnant, the chatters with the most seniority pick their preferred shifts first, then we move down the list.
You can take additional shifts after you are through your training period, the length of which depends on the speed at which you pick things up. Some people take about a month, some people need three months before they are comfortable.
Training is lengthy. We want to make sure that you understand (1) how to use the fan sites, (2) the brand and history of the creator you are chatting for, (3) the Terms of Service of each fan site, and (4) how to engage with fans properly. You will get paid during your training.
As a chatter, you chat with fans, sell them appropriate content or engage with them for tips. You respond to feed comments. You respect the boundaries of the creator you are chatting for–meaning you don’t sell or imply things that they would not sell or imply.
There is almost always a manager-on-shift available to be summoned for help or guidance while you are chatting. You will never be forced to engage with a fan that makes you uneasy and if you find yourself in a sexting scenario that makes you uncomfortable, someone will step in and take over.
Payment
This is a solely commission role. We do performance-based bonuses when we can–it depends on the month. There are other positions available that are not commission-based, but all BonerGhosts are expected to work as a chatter before stepping into another position so they understand the fan site landscape and the fans.
All roles are independent contractor positions, you will receive a 1099 at the beginning of the year.
What We Are Looking For
No previous chat experience is required.
We prefer to hire writers who can take on and understand different characters. As chatters, you need to be able to embody other people–sometimes people very different than yourself.
You also need compassion and empathy, and be able to hold space for a fan going through a difficult time just as much as you need to be able to excite a fan who tells you his deepest fantasy is having sex with a woman wearing Kleenex boxes as shoes. It is incredibly important that you have decent sexual and fetish knowledge and are comfortable in most traditional sexual scenarios.
On a more personal note, we are a very supportive, tight-knit team. We’re weirdos and oddballs and drama club freaks. If you’re a little strange but ultimately good-hearted, you’re on your way to being a good fit.
The Application Process
Below is a link to an application questionnaire that is extremely non-traditional. It helps us get a bead on who you are as a person and who you could be as a chatter and fellow teammate.
Once you submit your application, our team will review it. If we don’t think you will be a fit, you will not receive a reply. If we do think you could be a fit, we will reply and ask you one of two things:
- That we are not currently hiring but you seem amazing and would you like to be added to our list of “first to contact” when we start actively looking?
- That we are currently hiring and would you be interested in setting up a call?
Our chatter turn-over rate is very low, so we hire as we gain additional clients. We love having a list of good candidates to reach out to when we’re ready to bring someone on, so please don’t let the potential waiting period dissuade you.
