What To Do When a Fan Tells You Other Creators Charge Less

A fan line that deserves the most severe eye-roll is “other creators charge less.”

Whether it’s meant to guilt you, get you to drop your prices, or just annoy you, it’s a line most creators have heard at least once. And while it’s tempting to clap back with a spicy reply, staying calm, clear, and confident is the way to go.

Here’s how to deal with fans who try to price-compare you like you’re a car dealership.

What NOT to Do:

1. Lower your prices to compete.
Bad move: “Okay, I’ll match their rate just this time.”
Why it’s bad: It undercuts your value and sets a precedent that you’re negotiable.

2. Get defensive.
Bad move: “Well, I’m worth more than them!”
Why it’s bad: It sounds insecure and invites unnecessary comparisons.

3. Feel pressured to explain.
Bad move: Breaking down your pricing like it’s a math problem.
Why it’s bad: You don’t need to justify your rates to anyone who doesn’t want to pay them.

What TO Do:

1. Keep it simple and confident.
“I set my prices based on the time and quality I put into my work. If it’s not the right fit for you, that’s okay.”

2. Reframe the value.
“My prices reflect a personal experience, high-quality content, and my time. If you’re looking for something cheap, I might not be the right creator for you.”

3. Don’t engage in comparisons.
“Every creator runs their business differently. I focus on giving my fans the best experience possible.”

4. Know your worth.
Stick to your pricing. The fans who truly want you won’t care what anyone else charges.

5. Move on if needed.
Sometimes the best answer is no answer. You’re not obligated to respond to someone who’s trying to haggle.

You’re not here to race to the bottom. You’re here to build a brand, offer something unique, and get paid what you deserve. Fans who compare you to others don’t see your value yet, and that’s their loss, not yours.
