Locking your content is a must if you’re serious about being a creator. It’s how you set a price or control who gets access to your stuff—because not everything should be free, right? Pricing makes you money immediately while permissions nudge lurkers to follow and followers to subscribe.
Start by going to your messages page and finding the fan you want to send locked content to.
Grabbing Your Content
Once you’re there, click the picture icon. That’ll let you grab your content either from your Fansly media vault or straight from your device. You can pick one thing or bundle a few—it’s your call. Select what you want and you’re good to go.
Easy Mode
Fansly gives you two options: Easy Mode and Advanced Mode. Spoiler alert—Easy Mode isn’t actually easy (false advertising much?). But let’s start there anyway. Click the Easy Mode button.
Setting a Price in Easy Mode
There’s a ton of buttons on this page, but for now, let’s focus on the ones under ‘Lock Media.’ We’ll deal with presets later. For now, if you just want to set a price, check ‘Require Purchase’ and set your price. Hit upload, then the blue arrow, and send your content out.
Setting Different Fan Permissions in Easy Mode
Alright, here’s where it gets a little tricky. If you want to send a pic for followers and any tier above, click ‘Require Subscription.’
A pop-up will let you choose the specific tier, or just click ‘All Tiers’ if you want all your subscribers to see it.
If you only want followers to see it, just check ‘Require Follow.’
Setting Multiple Different Fan Permissions in Easy Mode
If you want to set a specific price for certain followers or apply multiple permissions to your content, you can check two or more boxes.
This lets you create different permissions at once. Once you’ve got it set the way you want, just upload and hit send.
Advanced Mode
Honestly, Advanced Mode is easier than Easy Mode–at least in my opinion.
Setting a Price in Advanced Mode
To set a price, click ‘New Permission’ and select ‘Price’ from the menu. A box will pop up where you can set your price. Hit confirm, and you’ll see it. If you need to edit it later, just click the pencil icon. Once you’ve set the price, click ‘Upload’ and send it out.
Setting Different Fan Permissions in Advanced Mode
To set different fan permissions, click ‘New Permission,’ and the same pop-up you saw for price will appear. You can select ‘Following’ for followers, ‘Subscribed’ for all subscribers, or choose specific tiers.
If you want to limit access for a specific time, click ‘Subscribed (More Options)’ and check ‘Restrict Timeframe.’ You can then set a start and/or end date to control how long your subscribers can view the content.
For Limited Time, the same options apply, but it’s for all fans, not just subscribers.
Once you set a start or end time, you’ll see a green clock icon after you submit it. (Hot tip: restricting a post or message’s timeframe is great if you have a “super” tier that gets all your content for free. You don’t want someone subbing, grabbing all the content you’ve posted on your wall or in their message history, then immediately cancelling the sub–and getting a refund.)
Setting Multiple Different Fan Permissions in Advanced Mode
To combine permissions, first click one, then use the ‘&’ symbol to add ‘New Permission’ and select the next one. For example, if you want only followers to view your content for a price, this is how you’d do it.
If you want the content to be available for a price for some fans, or free for subscribers, set one permission and then add another under ‘OR.’
(Translation of the above: to unlock the media, the fan has to be subscribed or pay $5.
Loading and Saving Presets
You can either load your saved permissions by clicking ‘Load Preset’ or save new ones. Set up your permissions that you want to keep (like we showed you above), then hit ‘Save Preset.’
As an example of a good preset, if you typically sell single pics for $7 to followers and $5 to subscribers, you can set a preset for $7 with the followers option and $5 for subscribers. If you want a flat rate no matter what someone’s fan status is, you can do that too. Here’s an example of what a loaded preset list can look like.
Yeah, I know this sounds like a total mess (because it is), but hopefully, this guide makes it a bit easier for you.
