Selling content on your feed is great and all, but if you’re serious about growing as a creator, your DMs are where it’s at. Locking texts—whether they’re spicy or just something you think fans should pay for—is a solid way to boost your income. Fansly lets you do it but, in typical Fansly fashion, the process is a bit clunkier than other platforms. Here’s how to get it done.
By now, you should know how to navigate your messages. If not, here’s the quick recap: click the envelope icon in the top right, then open the message thread where you want to lock your content. Simple enough, right? Let’s get to it.
Unlike most fansites where you can dive right in and start typing your locked message, Fansly likes to add a few extra steps. First, click on the icon with five lines and a dollar sign next to it.
A pop-up will appear with a text box—this is where you’ll type the message you want to lock. Once you’re happy with it, click “New Permission.” Here’s where you’ll set the price and decide which category of fans can view the message.
To add a price, select “Price,” then enter the amount you want in the text box.
Once everything’s set, click “Create” to finalize your priced message. Ready to send? Hit the blue arrow, and you’re good to go.
Once you send the message, it will appear in the message thread.
To customize who can view it without setting a price, select a specific category like ‘Following,’ ‘Subscribed,’ or ‘Tipped.’
Want to combine permissions? For example, if you want followers who’ve tipped to view the message, first click ‘Following,’ then use the ‘&’ symbol to add ‘New Permission,’ and select ‘Tipped.’
Need to set a tipping threshold? Click the pencil icon next to the tip setting and enter the desired amount.
For broader permissions (e.g., lurkers for a price or followers), select ‘Following’ and add more options under the ‘OR’ section by clicking ‘New Permission.’
After setting up your preferences, just hit send as you would with a priced message, and you’re all set!
Sounds complicated at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s better. Not great, mind you, but better.
